Are skinny jeans making you fat?

I’ve been wanting to write this post for some time but it has taken a lot of thought development in my head. Now before we get to far into this, I am not saying that skinny jeans are awful but there is something to be said for how we look in them. Also this post is dedicated to my curvier gals.

So how did I come to this conclusion?

Well one day I was throwing on my skinny jeans, t-shirt, and flats; snapped a quick pic for Instagram and went out the door. Upon examining the pic I thought about how disproportionate I looked. I had been losing weight but yet I seemed to look bigger in that picture. Here is the when the test came into play. I took out a pair of fitted boot-cut jeans and threw them on with the same flats (different shirt) and ta-dah I looked better!! Now I’m not trying to get into a “woman should wear whatever they’re comfortable in” debate but is there something to be said for “dressing for your body type.”

We’ve all seen the woman out who are not dressing for their body and we think to ourselves “she should not be wearing that, its not flattering.” So I guess my point is all these years I had not been dressing for my own body type. Everyone loves skinny jeans, especially the stretchy material (super comfortable) however us curvy short girls especially need to be careful because we could be adding to the curvy factor. Skinny jeans with flats create a narrow leg and a wide hip. Boot-cut jeans with flats create a long leg and draw the eye away from the wide hip area.

To prove this point again, today I dragged out some flats and both types of pants to show you actual pictures:

Now I’m pretty sure I look awful in the first picture but yet seem to look a whole lot better and smaller in the second. It should be noted that the first pair of skinny jeans are a size 12 and the new pair of boot-cuts are a size 8 (go me!) so the skinny jeans are a bit big to begin with but the concept is still there. Clearly I’m still curvy that hasn’t changed but at least for me skinny jeans aren’t the key to flattering my body. I’ll still wear them with high boots or Uggs but I most likely will stay away from wearing them with flats.

Over the past year or so I have learned a lot about what looks good on me and I just can’t wear anything I want. I’ve been losing weight and it’s important to me that I dress my body with flattering items. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue? Any tips for different body types?
