As most of you already know, color blocking is one of the hottest trends as of late, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s vibrant, bold, colorful, and let’s face it – HOT! Besides, it doesn’t hurt that it reminds us of the beautiful, balmy summer we have been missing.
While color blocking is not a new technique, it is certainly back and up to new tricks. If you aren’t familiar with the concept, let me give a brief rundown of the basics.
WHAT COLOR BLOCKING IS:
Use complementary colors to form a beautiful, vibrant ensemble. If you aren’t sure, stick to the same color family. (How very grade school-esque?) The color blocking concept, while not complex by any stretch of the imagination, is more thought out than it might appear at first, and as such, you should apply some basic rules.
WHAT COLOR BLOCKING IS NOT:
Color blocking is not a color free-for-all. You shouldn’t throw on as many colors as you can find in your closet and call it a masterpiece. You’ll look like a one-man clown show, my friend!
THE BASIC RULES:
· Play loud! Channel your inner child and break all of the matching rules. Go for BOLD colors, or go home.
· Remember, stick to two or three different colors – otherwise, you can refer to “What color blocking is NOT.”
· Let your attitude stand out as much as your outfit. If you are self-conscious and not comfortable in your skin, you won’t be able to pull of this bold, vibrant look. It’s the whole point!
· And, as always, “keep it simple, stupid!” 🙂
So, what are you waiting for? Let the color blocking commence!
