Quick tips for a good sunscreen

I can’t believe Memorial Day is over and the unofficial start to summer has arrived!! I love summer but could do without the humidity that we get here in the Ocean State. So that being said, with the summer comes sunscreen, and remembering to apply it. As of lately I’ve become slightly obsessed with products that are good for your skin and the earth, which my wallet isn’t always happy about! But needless to say, reading the back of every label has its advantages because I do not want harmful ingredients getting into my blood stream.

I have complied a list of harm ingredients that you NEED to avoid when purchasing sun care for yourself and your family. Take a look and for further information have a peek at the Ultimate Sun Safety guide for parents.

You should avoid these ingredients:
  • Oxybenzone
  • Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate)
  • Added insect repellent
You also want to avoid these products:
  • Sprays
  • Powders
  • SPF above 50+
Now here are the ingredients to look for:
  • Zinc
  • Titanium dioxide
  • Avobenzone or Mexoryl SX
Here are the products to keep your eyes out for:
  • Cream
  • Broad-spectrum protection
  • Water-resistant for beach, pool & exercise
  • SPF 30+ for beach & pool

I’m not going to tell you what brand to buy but if you want my recommendation I would say Pacifica Beauty and Beautycounter make two really good products for your whole family!
