Today might just be the hottest day of the year here in Rhode Island. I was in such a “mood” because of the heat, it’s like don’t even talk to me, because that is taking too much energy to respond. Luckily I work in an Air Conditioned building, but going from building to building in this weather isn’t fun either.
Right now one of my biggest challenges is dressing for this weather at work. For starters, I have a strict dress code working in the prison, but yet it’s summer in Rhode Island and freezing in my office. So how have I dealt? By adding key pieces to my wardrobe.
From hot to cold…
Everyone knows that layering is one of the best ways to get by when it’s hot outside and cold inside. My absolute favorite cardigans are the Halogen line from Nordstrom. They are soft, dressy, and they pretty much make them in every color. For me, I stick to the pinks and grays at this time of the year.
If you are over the cardigan look, which I completely get, I would suggest a soft knit blazer. I really love this look because they are comfy and don’t feel like you’re wearing a suit to work.
Are there any men out there reading? If so, I am a big fan of my man wearing a shawl sweater or even a half zip sweater. This keeps things looking super professional but easily removable after the day is over.
One of the greatest things you can do is buy that sweater or blazer in a fun print or color. This way you can mix and match and not look “too put together”. I’m all for looking coordinated but a pop of color is a must in my book.
