I posted last month about how to grow your blog (big hit if I do say so myself). Well what do you do when you can’t seem to sit down and get the creative juices flowing? We all get side tracked so I understand that procrastinating happens. However, there can be serious negative effects of procrastination, especially when it comes to a blog.

I should up grade to a planner!
I should up grade to a planner!
  • Going back to the previous post, one of the most important things you can do is schedule and plan. Not only scheduling when you are going to write but actually writing it down in a notebook or planner if you are a super blogger. There are also really good apps that help with scheduling out posts or tweets in advance. I really like to use Buffer and now Facebook Pages has their own that you can use to schedule posts. It really comes in handy.
  • The next thing that I really use to help me stay motivated is my readers. My blog is only as good as the people coming to it. If I don’t write as much in a week I notice a huge change in my numbers. Nobody wants to visit a blog that isn’t producing content. So if you are starting to feel lazy, think about everyone who is looking forward to seeing your posts.
  • Another thing that I like to do is shut myself in my room for at least 30-40 minutes a night to catch up on other blog posts and or to sit down and find some new topics to write about. Either way if I have 5 minutes to spare you can bet that I am doing something blogging related. Which really just means using your time wisely.

It can be really easy to fall into a rut with your blog, I know, I’ve been there many times. If you can stay focused and happy about the amount of people coming, even if it is a small number,( someone is taking the time to read your posts) that could really help from procrastination. I hope some of these tips have helped keep you motivated and focused! The past few months have been very eye-opening for me and I just wanted to share what has worked for me. Please let us know what other tips you may use or have used in the past.

Cheers!

xoxo Lindsay

Whenever I come up with an idea of a topic to write about I start a draft and just save it. I hate having a whole bunch of drafts so it makes me write the post sooner rather than later!

These are great tips! Getting organized and using some kind of editorial calendar is SO important. I also find that having some regular features on my blog helps me stay motivated. Knowing that I have some ‘built in’ content makes filling up the rest of the calendar SO much easier. Thanks!

Great tips! When I started blogging, I committed to posting daily Monday-Friday. Basically, I don’t give myself the option of procrastinating. I HAVE to get those posts up. Since I don’t look at it as optional, it really forces me to make time.

That “how to grow your blog” post has some great tips! Reading this makes me feel slightly guilty though, haha. Ever since I started my new job I’ve been doing terrible at writing posts AND staying involved in blogger groups. 😛 I love the tip for writing ideas down and scheduling posts – that has saved my blogger life many times (especially in December when I did a daily Christmas post and I was sick & away from the computer most days!)

I’ve been hoarding a small stash of draft posts to post on a rainy day. I’m fairly new too and just when I think I’m stumped for an idea, I see or read something from someone else and bam, I’m good. You really have to be on top of it DAILY though. I can definitely see how it eats away at the hours in the day.

    Always love your posts Linds!

Aw you’re so sweet!! My notebook is starting to fill up so I gotta write down some more ideas this weekend! Last night I wrote 3 posts for the week because I had the time. That is the tricky part!

Great tips, I am working on building so these are so timely. Going to read you last post on the issue. I am writing in a binder to keep track, but have not started scheduling what I am going to write, when, etc. That is the next step. And to stockpile posts so I am not always running behind…ARG!
